Taiwan Tea Culture Tour - Thousand Island Lake & Pinglin Tea Plantation

"Thousand Island Lake" & Pinglin Tea Plantation Scenery (4.5 hours) - morning (08:00 - 12:30)

Tour stops:

  • "Thousand Island Lake" Scenery
  • Pinglin Tea Plantation
  • Pinglin Tea Museum (close on first Monday each month; visit Pinglin Old Street instead)
  • Tea Tasting

The beauty of Shiding Thousand Island Lake is exposed to the world by an occasional photo publication and boomed at its fame. Countless camera amateurs catch the wind and pour in to capture their own artworks, making the place suddenly one of the notable attractions in Shiding. The name is derived from the attraction of same name in Mainland China, as the irregular hills surrounding the catchment area of Feitsui Reservoir (翡翠水庫) creates a similar scenery specifically from a nearby overlook next to the reservoir. In addition, because the landscape and climate of Feitsui Reservoir is ideal for growing tea, including the well-known Wanshan Pouchong (文山包種茶) and Dongfang Meiren (東方美人茶, lit. Oriental Beauty), it is also a noted tea plantation area in north Taiwan. Looking from height of the place, the renowned Bagua Tea Garden (八卦茶園) is right below.

Once you’ve arrived at the top of the mountain range. You’ll overlook the rustic Baguo Tea Plantation, where tea has been grown at the perfect altitude, in the slopes of the mountains, for generations. You’ll have a chance to stroll through the rows of tea plants, all set against the backdrop of the one-of-a-kind Thousand Island Lake. This is followed by a stroll down one of Taiwan’s “old streets’ which is a street of traditional Chinese and Taiwanese style that sells a variety of goods, snacks, and clothes. Some have remained unchanged since the days when Taiwan was a Japanese colony.

The day continues with a trip to the Pinglin Tea Museum.  You'll learn about the ancient tea culture that has existed since the dawn of Chinese culture.  Once you've finished the Museum, enjoy the morning at your own pace in the quaint, old-world tea village.  There will be plenty of opportunities to try a variety of teas, explore the temples and shops, or just sit and take in the views.  Whether you're looking for a romantic day with that special someone, a fun day out with the family, or taking some time by yourself to unwind, we guarantee it'll be a day you wont' forget.
